Growing With The Guitar

"Growing With The Guitar" is for children seven or over and adults.  This method uses some of the same melodies as "The Child's Guitar", keeping the older child interested in the more detailed notation of rhythm and music.  

Book I - blue cover, coil binding, laminated, with 41 pages - priced for $20.00

Contents:

  • Beginning exercises are interesting, introducing the first 3 open strings, and the fretted notes, C, D, and A. 
  • Technique for both hands is discussed along with the theory of music.
  • Photographs showing correct seating and hand positions are included. 
  • Chords G Major and C Major on the first four strings are written for strumming folk songs. 
  • The student finishes the book by playing a duet "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" with his teacher.
Book II - blue cover, coil binding, laminated, with 46 pages - priced for $30.00 with CD

Contents:

  • More interesting rhythms are introduced with the addition of the eighth and sixteenth notes.
  • New treble notes, C#, F, F#, G, allow for more beautiful melodies.
  • The thumb is now taught to play the last three bass strings and later added to the rest stroke fingers.
  •  Four new chords, D7, a minor, e minor, and d minor give more color to the folk songs, along with a Bluegrass Stroke, THE CARTER FAMILY STRUM.
  • There is also much technique and musical knowledge to be gained from this book.
Book III - blue cover, spiral bound, laminated, with 41 pages - priced for $30.00 with CD

Contents:

  • This book begins by introducing free stroke fingers and shortly after adds the thumb in combination.
  • New notes are to be found in this book for more advanced students along with changing meters, chord plucks, rasquedos, arpeggios, modes, new chords, calypso strum, three-string bar, harmonics, and tuning of the sixth string to D.
  • The pieces include classical, folk, flamenco, and contemporary pieces written by Maxine Parker.
